I've read all of your 50-word stories and this is my favorite. I like it because you manage to actually include a conversation in this small bundle of words, not easily done, I suspect. 'Punctual' is my least favorite, probably because of the unhappy ending.
All of them remind me of that sound your car makes after you turn the key, but before the engine actually turns over. These all feel like the start of something great, but alas, just when I'm ready to go revving along--it's over. And as for the challenge to write a 50-word story, I only wish I could. Hell, this review is probably twice that long. Good for you that you can keep it short and sweet. --Wendie
