That was truly gripping. I know that this site is designed to showcase stories of the romantic (usually) relationship between Logan and Rogue, but the issues of prejudice and bigotry are central to the X-Men mythos and this story illustrates that beautifully. I also like how you introduced comic elements relating to Magneto. His backstory keeps him from being a simple stock villain, out for money and power. Even though you can't condone his methods, you can understand why he is willing to go to such lengths to prevent another Holocaust. Good work!
I thought you brought this fic together very well – the horrors of what is now and what was then, Rogue’s internal battle and the bond between Logan and Rogue. It could have easily read as ‘bitty’ but it flowed together nicely.
Loved your descriptive paragraph of what she was being shown, especially how you started it - ‘And I saw. Heaven help me, I saw’. This was such a powerful line, reading or being told is not equal to seeing/feeling. This start dragged the reader deeper into what was to follow.
Loved the contrast of the choices made.
Great title that deserves a mention too - Well done x
One thing I’m slightly confused on – the Logan in her head placed the tags back round her neck but outside (in the real world) Jean placed them in her hand yet at the end of the fic they’re back round her neck?
Author's Response: Heh - good question. But if they - perhaps - brought her a nightgown and dressed her in it, they might have put the chain around her neck again. For Rogue it must have been the most natural thing to find them there after reawakening from her vision. Thank you very much for reading and reviewing - I have a very special love for "A Smell Of Ashes" and I am happy for every reaction.
Powerful, moving.
Author's Response: Thank you very much!
