Awesome story! The plotline was definitely interesting and different... I liked it...
One issue: LOOSE ENDS! :-) I am SO confused on this "James Howlett" character (I thought he was Logan/Wolverine???) You should write a story and explain it... and how he is either defeated, overcome, or befriended :-)
Author's Response: Hey, just wanted to reply to the review: I'm glad you enjoyed "Still Life." As for who James Howlett was, I'm surprised you're confused: He's clearly a hybrid (red eyes like Gambit, warty skin like Toad, blond hair like Sabretooth) and we know that Essex made plenty of those. As for his story being not being "tied up," I intended "Still Life," to be open-ended: I personally dislike having everything neatly concluded, especially since the story itself is so dark. For that reason I have no further plans to continue with this universe. But as I said, I'm glad you liked the story and thank you very much for the review- They make writing so much easier. OK, so I had to go back to Chapter 14 and re-read the end, but between that and Mia's sharp observation in her review, I am going to throw out a guess here that 'James Howlett' is one of the 'triggers' Essex created to try to gain ultimate control of Wolverine, but 'James' turned out to be just as staunchly independent as Logan and wouldn't play along. Maybe there's too much of Victor in him, or too much of the real James Howlett, or maybe I just missed this boat entirely. I'd sure like to know how this all fits--but even if I never find out--this was still one of the best stories I've ever read. --Wendie

I love that Marie reacquaints him with his humanity; she's always been his best link to it.
Their lovemaking--especially the last paragraph ('That's what Ah was trying to say')--was pure poetry. What he said--'fucking beautiful'.
Congratulations on finishing this masterwork. If anyone ever endeavored to collect 'the best fan fiction ever written', that volume would be incomplete if it did not include this amazing story. --Wendie

Wow. No kidding. That whole thing was spectacular. I love action adventures. And yours? I kind of crave those. This was beautiful. I don't want it to have ended. I'm going to go sort through the rest of your work now and see if there are any other action stories. Not everyone can do them as well as you do.
I'm highly intrigued by the James Howlett at the end. I had thought that Laura was the only successs from his jeans. Sounds to me like a mixture of Sabertooth, Logan and Toad. Ugh. What a horrible orgy that would be.

Amazing. Just amazing. So fitting that the New Reliable took love and used it to defeat evil. Excitement, drama and--surprisingly--humor. I love that Logan and Marie were cracking jokes amidst all the bloody seriousness. "Ain't losing control and doing something stupid MY job?" // "Hey, Ah can multitask." *chuckle, chuckle*
I'm glad there is an epilogue to come as this ends on a rather sad note--honest, but sad. --Wendie

Oh my goodness. Thank you. That was an apallingly beautiful chapter. Just, overwhelmingly so. I loved the justice of it. Just the right touch of sin and deep guilt and pain and redemption..

First, my apologies for not keeping up with this story--pfft! 'story'--ha! That word doesn't even come anywhere near to accurately describing what I just read. 'EXPERIENCE' comes a lot closer--as you were posting it. Somehow I knew that I would need a large block of very quiet time to focus on this so that I could truly appreciate it and in the hours between 4 and 8 a.m. this morning I finally found it.
As I read this, as captured as I was by the story, I couldn't help being awed by the depth and detail of your imagination. I *felt* every inch of this, could almost smell the musty, dank underground chambers, hear the explosions. The description of Maripoor was beyond heart-wrenching and without a doubt one of the best (or worst?) reasons anyone ever dreamed up for Logan needing to forget his past. You have given them all so many layers, not just Logan and Marie, but also Kurt, Hank, Storm and Kitty--and Remy, who it turns out really does have a heart after all. I'm glad.
Nice touch throwing in Merlott's from 'True Blood'. There are other moments that stick out from the later chapters--the biggest laugh out loud was Kurt calling Logan 'schnuptzikinz' or whatever the hell that was when they were bamf-ing off the jet--priceless!--but they are too numerous to list here. As time permits, I may go back and comment on each chapter, but for now I am exhausted--or X-hausted, if you know what I mean. It's been one helluva mission...and I could use some breakfast.

They'd do horrible things like settling down and becoming proffessors and vegetarians and raising sheep or something equally unsuitable. I am completely hooked into this story. It is amazing. The only downside I have found with it is the tendency for your characters to say GD. But your writing is excellent the plot is devastatingly twisty, the angst is purposeful and the chase is addictive and thrilling. Thank you for this glorious chunk of distraction.

At first I was like: WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF TWISTED SHIT DOES ESSEX DO??? And then I realized it was Mr. Sinister, therefore I should expect it from him. I really enjoyed the last several chapters. It clarified a lot.
