Barely Legal Since 2000
I have throughly enjoyed this story the entire way through. It is wonderful and sexy and dark and has a happy ending which makes my little heart smile. THANK YOU!
Author's Response: I'm so glad you liked it!! Thank you SO much for reviewing. I'm a sucker for happy endings too. :-)
I absolutely loved this story! You are a great writer!
Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it! Thanks so much for leaving a review. They make me very happy. :-D
I just wanted to make quick post to let you know that I absolutely loved this story. I want to reread it again so I can get my thoughts together and post something more coherent (hopefully). Thanks for finishing this and sharing your amazing talent with us.
Author's Response: Thanks so much, Oracle! Such a compliment to know you think it's worth re-reading, and I'd love to hear any thoughts you have about it. :-D
Oh, for me? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! That's actuallymade me blush;thanks!
And much more importantly: congratulations on finishing a grand story! Those two have a lot more discovering to do - both of each other and of the new wrld they are creating with their raltionship. How evry helpful to have this little voice in the back of your head to make it easier to understand the man: "She knew the second he scented her... He’s flinching at the very sight of me, she thought.
No, darlin’, just hunkerin’ down to take the punch."
The thought of the two of them developing a playful sense of humour is daunting - and very promising, from a safe distance! :-)
thanks for the quote of Donne! I'm the roaming partner and love that it's possible to still be someone's love. Do you know Weller's "Ere ye go"? Maybe not quite the same level of art but in the same vein.
P.S.: Cheers to your man's reaction to fanfiction! Mine, unfortunately, was intrigued and wanted to read, which makes me slightly red around the ears at times.
Anyway, happy further writing to you!!!
Author's Response: Thanks so much! It feels very nice to have the story complete, especially since at times I had no idea where I was going with it. Yeah, I had some fun thinking about whether I would really choose to keep my partner's voice in my head, especially since we know that Marie has the ability to "wall off" things she doesn't want. Not to mention if she has his senses and healing permanently or not, or if she can pull them out when wanted like some of her other powers. I hadn't heard Weller's Where'ere Ye Go before, but I found it on youtube (a very nice version with a violin accompaniment) and it's great! And I let my husband read the fic, but not the smutty parts. ;-) That would just be too embarrassing for me. Now I have to go see what you wrote that would make your ears red..rn
I feel like we have been on an epic journey together through this and ive loved every step! I love how it came back full circle with the last line....it was such a nice wrap up and thank you for sharing your genius with us!
Author's Response: Thanks so much for reading and reviewing all along the way! So glad you liked the ending.
Hi doctorg! Just for clarification of my review, I meant on to *your* next story. Please, please write more! :)
Author's Response: Ha, thanks for clarifying, I totally did *not* get that...I thought you meant you were on to reading other stories. :-D
Lovely ending. I adore that they are naked to each other, I adore that they are able to have fun together. (And I love the thought of Scott thinking he was naked in front of the class - genius!) Your Valediction, however, made me think too much about the sequel I promise I'm not going to beg you to write ... it's just cruel after you've finished an epic. But one day, be nice to see them make their end, so to speak.
Re the book from Tooth and Claw, it certainly is real; it was part of my Evolution of Human Sexuality coursework. The author is David Buss, and it was a fascinating read.
Author's Response: Aw, thanks! I'm so glad you liked the ending. I don't know about a sequel, for me so much of the plot is just an excuse for the characters to get to know each other, and I think I may have less to say for characters who have already reached that kind of understanding. But, I'll keep it in mind! And I realized after I posted that I meant David Buss, but you can't edit comments. :-) Arnie Buss is his father, they both taught at the university I was at, but David came around the time that I left so I didn't know him as well.
Right from the start and her ‘*I* will not leave him’ stand followed by her standing up to and against the chain of command I knew this was going to be a good read.
Logan’s actions completely believable given the circumstances as were Marie’s. Loved the initial trust, that there was little reason for it other than understanding of sorts from Marie’s side of things and a kind of calming comforting effect from Logan’s but that it was still there none the less and you made it believable.
‘Just call me the mutant whisperer’ – loved this line it was so fitting. Loved their interaction at the beginning, the way you explained both his and her reasons and thoughts etc. also the way you had her talk to and question herself.
Loved the continual use of ‘earthraincomfortMarie.’ As if trying to ground himself amongst all he didn’t understand.
You did a really good job on the confusion she felt between her and Sabertooth and also with Logan’s explanation of himself and living with the darker side, liked her quick acceptance of her situation compared to how long he had struggled and continued to struggle with his.
In a lot of fics Scott comes across as an interfering Bastard but only because we’re all here because we’re Rogan and way too biased! We should be able to see [even if we don’t want to] where he’s coming from, he doesn’t understand their connection any more than they do, that its almost instant and with such depth makes others who care worry, being on the outside looking in it’s even harder to understand. How is Scott supposed to know any different? Summed up I think later after the Motel scene ;) when we have Logan still working it out ‘He struggled to make sense of feelings that were both completely unfamiliar and completely overwhelming.’
Your scenes were a pleasure to read. The protectiveness in both shining through [it’s nice to see a fic where it’s not just Logan protecting Marie] Great emotion, dialogue and characterization. Loved the ending, as a reader you’re left with the feeling that what you’ve just read was almost like a prologue [and I don’t mean that anything more is needed] it’s just that for all they’ve been through it feels like their story/their life is just beginning a new chapter [I hope that makes sense!]
Oh dear I seemed to have rambled on a bit – I’ll stop now! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this – very well done x
Author's Response: Thanks so much for your review! There's no such thing as a too-long or too-rambling review, I love to hear what people particularly liked about the story. I have to admit, the chapters before Logan becomes coherent are my favorites. And I'm glad you liked the balance of them protecting each other, in some ways I added Marie's reaction to Sabretooth in because it seemed like *too* much of Marie protecting Logan, and I didn't want a fic where Logan was spineless and got bossed around all the time! In the end, though, I think some of the things he does to protect Marie are emotional, like seeking help from the Professor, and letting him read his mind, etc. Not to mention the things he does to protect Marie from himself, like trying to leave her all the damn time! I agree that I hope Scott is not just interfering, but he really cannot understand the depth of their relationship given the short time span, particularly based on what he knows about Marie's history of keeping herself protected from relationships. And I also liked the twist of having a fic where it's Scott who can't get past the idea of Marie as a "kid," and not Logan. Thanks so very much for your review, and for reading!
Sigh. Loved This! I think I will go back and read it straight through. Hope to see more of you in the near future.
Author's Response: Aw, that's such a compliment to know you think it's worth re-reading. Thanks for reviewing!
SquEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! So flippin sweet! Congratulations on finishing this, It is glorious and you have every reason to be proud of yourself. Thank you for sharing this part of you with us. I have loved losing myself in your words. Your husband definitely deserved that dedication. I loved your twist on it. Made me giggle nonstop. Thanks again. Thiis was a terribly wonderful distraction and exceedingly well done.
~Mia
Author's Response: I'm so glad you like it, Mia! Thanks so much for your kind words. Yes, my husband definitely earned his props, not the least of which was letting me hog the laptop for like a month straight. Thanks again for all your reviews!
Sigh. I do *so* love happy endings. And I also love a kick-ass yet not-painfully-dark Rogue. Thank you so much for both. And for the sake of your happily (if momentarily) satisfied readership, on to the next story! :)
Author's Response: I'm so glad you liked it, and that you liked the balance of Rogue's dark and light. Thanks so much for your review...Happy reading!
this story was simply wonderful. One of my favorites! I loved the ending, so very perfect. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Author's Response: I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks so much for reading, and for reviewing, all along the way!
i am crying on the inside. I knew this day would come, even hoped for it, but now my heart is heavy with sadness.
One of my favorite stories is over. True I can always go back and re-read it time and time again. But its just not the same.
I really loved this chapter, especially the mental game she plays with Scott.
I seriously hope you are writing another story as I am writing this review.
Author's Response: Aw, you are so sweet! I'm so glad you liked the story, and this chapter. I was worried that it would seem odd that Marie would access powers for such a frivolous purpose, but I couldn't resist getting back at Scott a little. And in my thinking, having Logan in her head makes it easier to keep the other personalities in line. I can see him being a bit of a take-charge kind of guy. I don't know about another story, but I had no idea I would write the ones I wrote until they started keeping me up at night, so you never know!
Whew. That's a lot of chapters to read in one fell swoop. Not sure why I haven't read your epic before now, possibly something to do with prisonerLogan stories not generally being my cup of tea. However. What a however. You have mastered the genre, and moved it forward. You do action incredibly well - seamless and convincing - and the emotional moments are beautifully drawn. (The sex too, but it's the emotion in your sex that made it so readable, I think.) I'll be sad to see this end, and I'll probably reread it slowly and leisurely once it does. Amazing job.
Author's Response: That's so funny...I spent a lot of last night reading your stuff too -- I'm loving your writing! And out of curiosity, is that a real book you refer to in "Tooth and Claw," and if so is it by Arnie Buss? If so, I know him. :-) I'm part-way through "The Bargain" now. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing...I was on my phone last night, but now that I've snagged the laptop back I can review your stuff too.
Oha, that was something. I believe there's no need for me to add to the many apt and justified praises on Logan realising that Rogue is a fighter on his level. The part I like even more, though, is Rogue understanding enough of the Wolverine to grant him the chance of the kill. Excellently done - you write Rogue a lot stronger than is usually done, and thus she becomes an equal partner at last. Great stuff.
Am also tremendously glad to see that Logan can be made to understand his role as a partner without cringingly soppy heart-heart scenes:
“I should be givin’ you hell right now for locking me in that bathroom,” she said.
Logan grunted in agreement.
There, all done.
I'd like to second Oracle13 in appreciation of cleanly written, dependably updated work - and thank you so much for actually answering the reviews!!! I feel so much more appreciated! :-D
Author's Response: Aw, thanks! It's funny, towards the middle of the story I realized that writing a strong Marie was coming so naturally that I was getting worried in the end that I was ending up with a kind of passive, spineless Logan. I didn't want a story where Marie just bossed Logan around the whole time and fought all his battles for him. In the end, though, I think the balance shifts back and forth between them, and both are able to show their devotion by how much they act in ways that might be counter to their natural tendencies. I think Marie shows in the first couple of chapters that she's naturally kind of empathic and caring, so seeing her be kick-ass for Logan is more fun. And we all know that Logan is tough, so showing how he protects Marie in other ways (seeking help from the Professor, etc.) and comes to an understanding of her strength lets him show that he can be caring and empathic too when Marie is involved. Okay, I'm rambling. Thanks so much for writing your reviews...they are so much more appreciated than you will know! I actually did a little dance in my desk chair today when I checked my phone and saw a new review had been posted. Glad I have an office to myself. ;-)
I am loving this. The way you wove Jason into the chapter I thought something might happen with him but I surely wasn't expecting that! I love the way you wrote Marie in this chapter - the avenging angel but she understands Logan's need for the kill and Logan finally understands the fierce will that lives within Marie. Now just don't kill them, yeah yeah I know they were both breathing but I won't rest assured until you get that next chapter up.
Author's Response: So glad you liked it -- especially that I was able to communicate Marie's strength and her understanding of Logan's need for personal retribution. I'll try to get the last chapter up this weekend.
I have absolutely loved, loved, loved this story! So so glad I took this ride with you! Can't wait to read the end and see how you give them a happy-ever-after, because you will give them a happy-ever-after, won't you?
Author's Response: I'm so glad you have liked the story! Thanks for reading, and reviewing! I'm not going too far into the future with the last chapter, but for what there is I think they'll get a pretty happy-ever-after. :-D
wow, great job! i'm on the edge of my seat here! can't wait for more!
Author's Response: Thanks for your review! I'm expecting the last chapter will be up this weekend.
I love this story!!!!
Author's Response: I'm so glad! Thanks for reviewing!
Hallelujah for that one moment when Logan finally SAW her. And found her equal, saw her as one of his kind; saw her as tremendously strong. I loved that moment. I liked the gutting and all the rest. I enjoyed the comcast symmetry too. But mostly I loved that moment. I was tempted to quote Mister Mister there. But went with Hallelujah instead. (You're the one I had decided was one of my kind...)I likes it.
~Mia
Author's Response: I'm so glad I badgered you to be more specific, because that's my favorite part of the chapter too, but it was also the part I struggled the most to write. I swear I spent more time on that one paragraph than I did on the rest of the chapter combined. I kept adding, and deleting, and changing the wording. It's so good to know from your comments that it seemed to come across in the way I wanted it to. Thank you again for reviewing, Mia!
I have to say, even though this is not the last chapter, I have loved every moment of this story.
You have an amazing talent that I could only hope to have a quarter of. You can make people envision the scene you are describing. There are many great authors in the world but very few who truly have that ability.
I look forward to reading many more stories from you.
Melody
Author's Response: Thank you so much for your review, and for the compliments, Melody! I know compared to some of my faves on this site I'm a league below, but I've definitely learned a lot from the first real non-scientific writing I've done in about a decade! ;-)
They say there was a secret chord, that David played and...yeah. Hallelujah.
Thank you. This was marvelously fun to read. And ballsy. Very ballsy. Thanks.
~Mia
Author's Response: That's so funny, that song has been stuck in my head for the last two days. I was actually just singing it to my toddler in the bathtub, luckily he's too young to be freaked out by the darker lyrics. :-) So, Hallelujah for what? Retribution against Stryker? Marie deciding to accept Logan's healing? Not trying to fish for compliments, I just love to hear what people found particularly resonant for them. Anyway, I'm glad you found it fun to read. I kind of liked the symmetry of ending with the team's comm feed, as I started it, but of course I can't resist a last chapter. Thanks again for all your reviews, throughout the story.
Stryker's fate - couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Good, I don't want there to be even the slightest possibility that he could get his hands on them again. Good riddance.
I've really enjoyed this story and I'm sorry that it's coming to an end. But I'm looking forward to some Rogan-goodness in the last chapter (hint, hint). Also, I can't tell you how awesome it's been to read a story that is consistently and quickly updated as well as being on the way to being finished. You rock!
Author's Response: Yeah, I have to admit I quite enjoyed Stryker's disembowelment too. :-D There will definitely be some Rogan-ness in the next chapter. Maybe not smutty Rogan-ness, but some sharing of feelings and whatnot. I have to admit, I was kind of surprised to see I only started the story in December. It seems like longer. But, I've definitely been burned by unknowingly getting really into some works-in-progress and then realizing they haven't been updated since 2009, or whatever, so if I do write more just know I'll never do that to you guys! Thanks again for all your reviews, they are definitely a large part of what motivates me to write so consistently.
So relieved that Marie showed up. Logan's despair at being caught and never seeing Marie again was palpable. Looking forward to the ass-kicking!
Author's Response: :-) Glad you liked it! You must be psychic, I just posted the next chapter all of a minute ago!
Aaahhh! That was great...I forgot all about strikers son being in the room with them! Loved it : )
Author's Response: Yeah, poor Logan. Remember, last chapter he disconnected the i.v. with the mutant tranquilizer and unwittingly allowed Jason Stryker control over his mutation again. He just can't catch a break lately. Glad you liked it! Thanks so much for reviewing!
