If you ever come back and write a continuation to this story, know that I will be very happy. >,
Just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about this story, and would really love to see an update some day!
Excellent, as always. I look forward to more. :)
Yet another wonderfully written, full bodied chapter. I think you should submit this story to the powers that be over there in Marvel Land. You understand and have such an amazing grasp of all the X-Men inhabitants. And yes, I completely agree about how Marie would still remember fragments of people who used to be in her mind. Your analogy of why is spot on. Great story, I really appreciate the time and effort you put into making this a very thorough and realistic story.
Wow. This is going to sound crazy but I was thinking about your story yesterday (I've been listening to Neko Case, and you were right, she is wonderful) and wondering if you would update soon, and then when I got home from work and saw you had it made me so so so happy. You made a crappy day that much better, so thank you.
As for the chapter, I loved it. I just love the way you write the relationship between Logan and Rogue-acknowledging that its more fragile than she (or we) like to believe.
I hope that if you can bring her down so low, you can also build her back up again. One of my favourite things about your writing is how the characters change and grow based on the things you put them through.
I also hope that shorter chapters means more frequent updates, if you can manage it?
Yay, you're back. No crickets here.
All I can say is Ouch. You're really twisting the knife in Marie's gut, aren't you? (That's not a complaint.) Sorry to hear you were cut off from the net for a while; I think I'd shrivel up in that situation. Hope to read more from you soon.
This is really very good. Is it a WIP?
Oh--I forgot to add that your command of characterization through dialogue is amazing. You get Kestrel's speech patterns perfect, for example.
You have a real gift here, the way you are able to describe the interactions between the different characters are very realistic. I absolutely love the fact that you are so knowledgeable about John Wraith and his relationship with Logan. In the comics, he did have access to Logan's healing factor, all of them did (Sabretooth, SilverFox et all) although I know you focus on the movies more. I truly enjoyed reading this new installment and look forward to more.
You continue to amaze and delight me with your writing. I absolutely love how you're weaving together all of the movies into a unified whole with real continuity, and it's clear that you put a lot of thought into your stories. Thank you for that.
I spent half of today poring over this story, slowly, to take it all in properly. ;) You're in my top favorite fanfic authors of all time, hon!
While this is not my fave fic of yours so far (brooding angst is not my thing), I'm loving all the movie & comics tie-ins. Caliban makes a good foil for Marie in the 2nd chapter; the character exploration you've done with Bobby thru just a few overheard messages & a conversation or two is masterfully executed; the subtlety of the way you've chosen to reveal Logan's deepest feelings gets me every time!
I totally agree with you on the Rolo implications of X3. Although, I'm actually a big RoLo shipper, also; though I think they make a much more natural couple in the comics, I can see the Berry/Jackman incarnations working out, too. Still, my fellow Southern gal gets precedence. :0)
I'm eager for your next installment!
Author's Response: Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm really touched. And I'm so glad you found things to enjoy, even though it's not your (or my, for that matter) usual style. I'm finishing up the next chapter right now (then it's off to my new beta!) and I can promise a lot more action going forward. And Re: the RoLo 'shipping, Berry/Jackman do make a pretty couple in Swordfish. Plus, I have no room to judge because I can see Rogue with...everybody, haha. But I'm much pickier about Logan, so with him she stays. :D Great to have you on board!
You are the queen of comic/movie mashups. I don't know why I consult Marvel Wiki when there's you. You are one X-Men walking encyclopedia. This won't make sense, but I love how you craft this. It seems like everything is deliberate, but the seams from stitching it all together are hidden. You make it seem effortless. Do you have everything already planned out in your head or are you still developing the plot as you go along?
Author's Response: If you consult me, I'll consult Marvel Wiki then get back to you. My thought process is usually, "Hm, I need a mutant who goes like this," search, search, search, "Hm, what an interesting history. I'll bastardize it for my purposes." *g* Thing is, I tried to write this without plotting, just loosely following what I'd try to do if I made a song vid, but then things started to connect all nicely and then that became a plot...ugh, and now my series of stand-alones have morphed into to another epic. Bear with me, haha.
Another brilliant chapter. The amount of thought you put into your stories shows through in every line. I have a feeling I'm going to be reading this one more than once...:)
I loved the text messages, and the scene on the fire escape...and so much more, but those are the two things that are coming to mind right now. I can't wait for the next chapter! :)
Author's Response: The amount of thought you put into your stories shows through in every line. I'm so pleased you said that. Thank you so much. And please do reread! I don't have a beta, so I'm fixing grammar/clarity mistakes left and right, haha.
Oh, I adore this. I love it when really clever people can weave the various Universes together ... so much richness results, and a narrative depth that just the Movieverse doesn't offer. The moments with Cal and the other cured are just so poignant, and him flicking through her messages and knowing she has somewhere to go, and someone missing her ... that's so sad.
Not sad was my absolute favourite line in fic for a while: "No doctor ever vowed her case was hopeless, then turned around and left her with his dog tag, a promise, and really sensational suggestions to get herself off."
Yes. Amen. Poor mixed up Rogue. Now I want to know what was going on with Logan under that there tree, but I'm sure you'll get to that sometime soon *whistles idly*
Author's Response: I really don't know much about the comics, but I'm ridiculously bothered by continuity errors and obsessive about fixing just because I've been a fan of the movies for so long (has it really been ten years since X1 came out???) :D That line is one of my favorites, too, and the sentiment behind it will be explored in the next chapter (*smacks Logan*).
Love this chapter, and appreciate how thoughtful you are about tying things together. But poor, poor, Marie. That just hurt to read! Anxiously awaiting more...
Author's Response: I appreciate your appreciation. Much more to come, inshallah.
Oh, ouch. Seriously ouch. This is really good. You've done a great job of depicting Marie's struggle to control her life.
Author's Response: Poor Marie. Even without the voices she doesn't who she is/should/can be.
Brilliant, as always. :D
Author's Response: Hope it stays that way! I'm almost done with the next chapter. I probably would have finished it tonight, but I got hooked reading all the excellent new Rogan I've missed. So much great stuff out there! We are such a lucky fandom.
Love your writing style, cannot wait for an update
Author's Response: Thanks! This one's a bit more "stylistic" (read: chaotic) than my previous fics, so I'm glad you like it.
I'm so glad you're back :D I missed your writing like you wouldn't believe. I'll be honest, I was a little confused with the time shifts, but I think I got it. You have such a way with words, really. You give us these vivid descriptions without bogging us down in too many words. That's just....just amazing - which is an understatement. You think of everything too - I like that you're really trying to work in Origins, despite how the movie kind of messes with the other X-movies.
Part of me is completely envious of your writing ability, but most of me is just dying to see where you take this. I'm just so, so, so glad you're back!
P.S. I'm with you about X3 issues. I think the entire WRFA is.
Author's Response: Thank you. :D Sorry about the time shifts. They're there to a) make me write more by making me write less (if that make sense); b) distinguish this work's style from Dark Side of the Moon (also 3rd person shifts between Rogue and Logan); and c) mirror how I would edit a fan vid based on these songs (I miss vidding like you would not believe!) Before I sat down to plan this fic, I actually wrote up a comprehensive timeline that reconciles Origins with the Trilogy and even the new First Class movie (e.g. how Emma Frost's character got recycled). I even cooked up a few Rogan coincidences pre-Trilogy, just because I'm that obsessed, haha.
Frig, I love this story. I almost didn't want to read this today because I read your last story in almost one go and I hate having to wait for this one.
Also, you make me want to bang my head against my desk because in a million years I'll never be able to write like this. I mean this in the most sincere way possible: You could probably describe grass growing and I'd eat it up ( the writing, not the grass)(not that that image is any less weird). I love your writing.
The way you write Logan is so perfect. Watching x3 is so difficult because the characters don't act at all in accordance to how we are used to seeing them, but reading stories like this make me a feel a lot better about it. The little behind the scenes looks make perfect sense. I love how much thought you've put into your descriptions, and that you share your reasoning with us. Please keep writing this, I cant wait to read more!
Author's Response: Wow, thank you so much. That means a lot to me. Logan's a lot harder to nail (er...thoughts drifting, ahem) than Marie (...also nice...) I'm so relieved he worked for you. I rewrote this chapter a bijillion times out of worry he wouldn't sound right, and a lot of the problem I had has to do with what you're saying about X3. The Logan who speechifies, "X-Men stand together" is jarringly heroic compared to the anti-hero who challenges, "There's a war out there. Sure you're on the right side?" I'm all for character development, but, man, X3 Logan just comes off as delusional. Hence why I blame the Professor, heh.
Oooo... I can't wait to read another chapter. I like your POV on the X3 stuff! =) Keep on writing!
Author's Response: Thanks! I will.
Love it! That ending was fantastic. More, please.
Author's Response: Coming soon(ish)!
Love it.
Could work as stand alone, or the beginning of something awesome. Looking forward to your next adventure!
Author's Response: Thanks for reading!
Oh my God, I am SO excited that you have another story. I absolutely love your writing. It clicks right into place with my perception of the movies but it goes so much deeper than that, and it's amazing.
I've written countless scenes, trying to figure out what Rogue would be thinking before she got the Cure, but I feel like you nailed it on the head.
My favourite line was "Paternal is low on the list of things she wants Logan to feel for her."
You have a wonderful way with words, and I can't wait to read more of this!
Author's Response: So great to hear that the scenes don't feel AU to you. To me Rogan *is* canon, and the movies are just playing coy.
I'm so glad to see you writing new stuff! I'm new to the site (and the general world of Rogan fanfic) and I looooved your Dark Side series -- it was so great! I loved the explanation of why the cure was so vital to Rogue (especially how the Freak Out intensified her power/curse). And her interaction with John. Even her interaction with Scott when she takes his powers is so brief but moving. I can't wait to read more.
Author's Response: Welcome to Rogan! There's a lot of great stuff going on over here. :) Glad you liked the interactions with John and Scott. Secondary characters are really important to me. More soon.
