It's not that short, and besides, in just 1600 words, you explained Laura's mental state, hinted at what her life in the lab was like, established that Laura is going to be an exercise in patience for her father--her incessant questions are not something he would tolerate from anyone else--and given us, as your other reviewer said, a lovely family moment.
