Just wanted to say...I envisioned Logan rolling over to the control panel and being able to use his fingers so no worries about the handcuff thingee...

;)

Oops, I forgot my favorite line. There were a bunch of good ones, but I think this wins:

The sort of friend you knew nothing about, and couldn’t really trust, but liked anyway.

Omigod, you just made me laugh SO hard!! This morning when I woke up, I fully intended to ignore my familial duties to read your update, but when the kids were sent off to school with what must have been, the most saddest bunch of lunches yet, I forced myself to go out and buy them some real sustenance!! Then I get to the end of your most EXCELLENT chapter yet, and lo and behind, we are in the same basket LOL!! Thanks for the solidarity comrade, its not just me then! K, now on to my review: Everything, of course, but this is my favourite:
he told himself he was holding on to his fucking sanity, not to her.
I have officially fallen in love with your Logan. Surperb, as always! :)

Do it again,” he growled. And all of a sudden, practice looked like a fine thing.

Now, that, is Wolverine. Love it, your Logan and Marie are so powerful, when I saw that you updated, I had to settle in with my coffee first because I know I was going to savour each and every word.

Author's Response: I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that! (Poor keyboard. Too many immersions to count.) Thank you for reading and I hope I can maintain the quality for you.

Yeah, I read uncanny x-men when I was a girl and going through the topic above and thought it would be the mutation I would want...So, yeah I agree it is mental and not solely the out come of genetics after all it, a mutation as extreme as untouchability, would lead to the extinction of the species and would not be a leap forward, but a fall backward.

I needed a Jaq-fix this morning. :( I hope those updates are coming along well! ;) Feed that muse, girl!

Author's Response: Maybe not yesterday? I had a bad couple of days so I'm thinking Sunday at this point, unless I pull something out of my hat now. (It is 6.07am and I have just started up the computer; anything is possible!)

Ooooh the potential of this first chapter...

hmmm epic or few chapters... good question... hehe you decide I'd like both :)

Author's Response: Glad you enjoyed!

I have to admit that today after I reviewed this I watched Hugh Jackman in Deception and he looks hot as a bad guy! He totally sold it! I could so, see Dark!Wolverine after that. Is there a place to make fic requests? There was a line in that Jackman's character uses that just screams, Wolverine.

Author's Response: Not sure if there is a place in the archive, but the mailing list is always a good place, or the Live Journal Community pages. Go on ... I love a good challenge!

btw, I see that almost *all* the reviewers dislike Logan here, or think he's "dark". I disagree. I find him very sympathetic, here; reading between your lines, I think Rogue hurt him just as much as she was hurt by him, and this is Logan's way: to bury any and all vulnerable emotions beneath rage, frustration and contempt -- anything to keep from acknowledging her power over him!

Yes, he was selfish in assuming so much future control over a girl so young and impressionable; and yes, with his background ALL his attempts at relationships are bound to be dysfunctional ... but it doesn't seem to me that Logan intended to use Rogue. He would not have anticipated how she perceived his actions after becoming privy to his thoughts.

...All the above is what I got out of your story so far :) I guess I just don't equate that as being crude, or dark.

Author's Response: Hmm, interesting take. I think he is probably less sympathetic than you are seeing, because of who he WAS at the time, but things are yet to unfold fully. Also, we have barely moved an hour into the present day ... their story is just beginning, also. (And re crude ... I'm happy to own that. Crudity is a weapon Logan likes to employ ...)

Ooh...drama! Very intriguing so far (What happened in Pasadena? Was Logan really just manipulating her?). Logan isn't coming across so likable, but that's okay...I'm very interest to see where it goes!

Author's Response: I think we'll find out about what happened in Pasadena in the next chapter ... possibly. He was definitely manipulating her - but to what end? And why? That's why I need quite a few chapters more, yet. And no, this Logan isn't likable Logan. He's infuriating!Logan and ambiguous!Logan and love-to-hate-him-but-I-really-want-to-jump-his-bones-anyway!Logan.

The fact this is all you've gotten finished frightens me, but you simply have to finish this story. I love the way you are writing Rogue and the first thought I had upon reading the last three lines is...WOOT! She's gonna kick his ass!

Can't wait to read where this is headed. Thank you for sharing.

Author's Response: Don't worry, it will get finished. I couldn't sleep at night if I left a story unfinished. I'm glad you are liking this Rogue ... I think she's a bit of a catharsis after my teenRogue and all the sweetlurve in the last story. I'm enjoying a bit of badness!

btw, I also wanted to say, I REALLY love your writing style! That's a talent b/c it's rare to find a story written with such a clear, engaging voice. :) Kudos!!

...So you're an Aussie? (I read that in your review-reply to someone else) Right on! A fellow Southerner, then!

Author's Response: Thank you! I put it down to my newspaper writing background - never say anything in seven words if you can say it in six. And yes, I'm in the deep, DEEP south!

I'm liking this a lot...SO curious to find out what happened in the past and how Logan is going to react to seeing her again! *Definitely* worth finishing, and I see epic potential for sure!

Author's Response: Sorry, you'll have to wait on that Logan reaction. I need to be inspired to write me some reacty Logan. I have to have it fixed *just* right in my head. But I'll be working on it this weekend, I promise. (Australian weekend, even. Sooner than most!)

Hmm go on. I like it so far. One thing I didn't like was the pace; you rushed through the flashback and other places. I think you could have elaborated a little.

But I like it :)

Author's Response: I'll pay a bit more attention to pacing ... but don't think the flashback part is over. Oh no. There will be quite a bit of revisiting the past in this one ... it's as much about the journey to where they are now as what's happening in the now.

I can't wait to read more! bit of advise you can totally ignore- if you do evil! xavier, don't do evil! or Bitch! jean. it's too much for one story and besides, i personally find it annoying when both of them are evil at the same time, cause it takes up a lot of the plot that should be devoted to Wolverine and Rogue.

Author's Response: Not sure if I ever do evil! or Bitch! ... I just write the characters as they come (to me) and don't spend too much time thinking about anyone other than Wolverine and Rogue, to be honest. I don't really think of Xavier as evil, tbh, just realistic in this scenario. Not sure where Jean is going to take her sweet self ... but whatever happens, don't worry. W & R are generally front and centre in my fics.

I really like the premise, especially that he's starting to groom her to be his assistant/companion. I also like the flash back/forward, because it feels like we get more information out of it. I like her attitude and his too, it's a different take on things, and I especially like the older/wiser Rogue vs. the younger/naive Rouge because it shows she's changed and grown up and learned from her past, and matured as a person.

I definitely think this is a great story, and as I've liked all your others, I hope you do decide to continue and finish it! Thanks!

Author's Response: Thank you. It means so much when people take the time to let you know exactly what they like ... I'm glad the flash backs worked because I originally had the flashback dialogue it written italics which does make it easier to distinguish past from present, but I had forgotten how to upload it like that. (anyone able to clue me in - PLEASE!) And yes, I also like old Rogue/young Rogue, because ... I get to play with BOTH of them that way. And yes, I will definitely continue AND finish it.

First reaction: excitement!!

In answer to your Q in the A/N: it's *definitely* epic-worthy! I hope you are inspired to spend the time with it that this fabulous, auspicious beginning deserves!

I love this version of Logan, and Rogue's slightly desperate reaction to him could lead to all kinds of drama, especially with the confrontational way they're destined to meet again, Xmen caught between. ...and Xavier's suspicion of Logan being a "class five" mutant, when he's only class three...!! That was a deliciously ironic bit of overestimation, showing just how well Logan makes use of his mutation & long (if half-forgotten) combat experience.

This is a new favorite for me.

Author's Response: An epic it is then! I must admit to being a bit suprised I had actually forgotten this existed ... I blame the near total devestation of losing all my photos when my desktop died, and then the massive relief that all the files were able to be recovered. My brain got fried too, obviously. But here it is, and its good another chapter already written, and lots of zingy possibilities keeping me up nights, so ... welcome to the ride!!!!

I really hope you finish this, i would love to read the entire story. It may be a premise that's been done, but it's one of my favorites.

Author's Response: I will definitely finish this - I hate unfinished stories with a passion. I need the mental resolution or it will bug me so much I can't sleep! And yes, there's a reason certain premises get visited lots ... they hold so much potential.

You’re far from the only one who thinks this deserves to be finished - Great start love the initial meet and training, I’m intrigued, what happened? What will happen? These are the questions and not knowing immediately is why I hate (although getting better at living with) chapter reading but I’m in – you pretty much had me from the summary! And for the line about the juniors chorusing their confidence with all the sophistication of the playground which tickled me immensely you start with max rating.

Author's Response: Three thumbs up - I do love those little stars. Thank you :D I must confess I don't KNOW the answers to those questions yet so I am as intrigued as you are. I need a few good hours to ponder, and then a few good hours to write, and hopefully some of those answers will present themselves. (Good hours = anklebiters and husband out of house, nothing else to steal my focus.) I just have to meditate on some Wolverine thoughts, and all shall become clear. *nods sagely*

I love it! I hope you make this into an epic, but I'll be happy with a few more chapters. I love the idea of Logan waiting for her to be ready. Can't wait to read more!

Author's Response: there's certainly a few more chapters in it, but the question is just how many. I rarely know how something will end before I start writing - I just roll with it. But this one is two stories happening at once, so ... epic it is, methinks.
