What a unique and gripping interpretation of Logan and Rogue! This is awesome! This is a work of someone with a powerful imagination.

Oh, you tease! What a great scene, but how rudely interrupted. ;-)
But, was the light Ororo the whole time? Seems a little voyeuristic of her.
Anyway, favorite line from this one:
Bones crackled underfoot as they walked, the air turning sticky and stifling as they ventured deeper.

Author's Response: you know, ororo being the light hadn't occured to me... she wasn't though, she just knows how to use some of the cave's magics. so she's not a voyeur... i really enjoyed writing this chapter (though i did think it would squick people a little bit) so getting so much positive feedback about it is really nice... cheers!

My dear hobbit, keep writing like this and you will forever be in my good books! My dark side will stay reserved only for Jean :) I am soooooooooooooo loving this, there are the familiar aspects, the things we know, but it’s like we’re seeing the whole thing with a fresh set of eyes. Fantastic chapter, loved the title too, which had far more meaning with the plural (safes places and not place) 10/10 as usual x

Oh... my. That is kinda disturbingly hot. Or maybe I should be disturbed that I'm not more disturbed? Whichever, I'm really enjoying the story, though I'm a little uncertain exactly how wolflike you pictured him to be. Looking forward to the next installment!

Guilty as charged! I knew I was in trouble as soon as I saw that you had responded--that I had clearly crossed the line. I had deliberately omitted the song and artist name hoping that any possible negative connotations that you might have against it would not materialize and instead you would view it in the positive light that I had intended. I admit that there is a DEFINITE (huge, actually) cheese factor regarding him and his music, but, I promise you, your story is in NO WAY cheesy or anything else remotely like that. It was a positive reaction on my part, really.

If I did ruin your muse with this, then please send more than just Mistress Gold after me. I deserve it. Mea culpa. Geez, I'm really batting a 1,000 over here lately.

Uh, is it too late to say that I love this story and please forgive my foolish Meatloaf transgression?!!! Please, please, please (with soulful Bambi eyes)?!!! I solemnly swear to never invoke the name of Meatloaf or his evil lyrics ever again, as God is my witness!!!

Author's Response: oh, not the bambi eyes! anything but the bambi eyes! honey, i'm just joking: i spent a great deal of my teenage years head-banging to meatloaf. and AC/DC. and (whispers, terrified people will know) Bon Jovi... ahem, seriously, i'm always just grateful that people read and comment; i always love to hear from you so please don't think i'm mad. i'd have to be an ungrateful, humourless bint to get my knickers in a twist over something like that- especially since i laughed my arse off when i got the reference. don't worry, until the day logan in the comics shaves and hugh jackman spontaneously combusts from his own hotness i won't loose my muse on this one. so, please, forgive me :-)

Wow, that was really intense and, well, hot!

"The sight of those beautiful, lupine eyes staring up at her from between her breasts was the most wicked, gorgeous thing she’d ever seen."

Yeah, definitely hot. ;)

Can't wait to find out more about the cave and Stray being his moonlight key.

BTW, the lyrics to this old song popped into my head when I read this chapter:

[Boy:] On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?
[Girl:] Will he offer me his mouth?
[Boy:] Yes.
[Girl:] Will he offer me his teeth?
[Boy:] Yes.
[Girl:] Will he offer me his jaws?
[Boy:] Yes.
[Girl:] Will he offer me his hunger?
[Boy:] Yes.
[Girl:] Again, will he offer me his hunger?
[Boy:] Yes!
[Girl:]And will he starve without me?
[Boy:] Yes!
[Girl:] And does he love me?
[Boy:] Yes.
[Girl:] Yes.
[Boy:] On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?
[Girl:] Yes.
[Boy:] I bet you say that to all the boys!

Author's Response: woman, you do realise you've quoted meatloaf lyrics at me, don't you? I'LL never be able to take this story seriously again, let alone anyone else... wicked, wicked Oracle, i'm sending mistress gold after you ;-P

I love the imagery I get out of everything you write, but this story in particular is exceptionally beautiful. I see everything so vividly that it's almost like I'm watching a movie in my mind. Bravo.

Another fantastic snippet of the world you've created, the snow, the wind, the landscape:

Branches a thick lattice overhead, roots snaking and treacherous underfoot.

And the connection between the two on a physical level is just ramping up:

The need to have it filled with a man’s moan or a wolf’s howl too intoxicating to resist.

Wow. Words to you are like shades of paint on an artist's tablet. I love your decription of Kurt and I think he would too - Errol Flynn incarnate!

Yet again, you amaze. :)

I read this once last night and again this morning. I don't know if you planned it or not but the cadence and language of this chapter fits its mood. It's smoky, dark and on the edge of scary but oddly comforting. I am highly intrigued as to what Ro is up to. She is obviously Logan's friend and a trusted one if she is in the cave. I am guessing that's Kurt but I can't help but wonder what Hank would be like.
