*sighs*

Oh the road to battle, and the ways to arm before arriving at the nest of the 'enemy'. *rubs hands*

They are gorgeous when they stand side by side in an united front.

WOW!! I mean, just Whoa! I'm just about speechless over these latest chappies (17-18-19). So much.....so much of everything!! The lies, the falsehoods, the bait and switch; the layer upon layer of deceit that Xavier has laid down. And there's no way he did all this just to control Logan and Marie!! I know it will take a lot, but we'll see that he's been like this with everyone, won't we? Kill the ones he can't control and USE the ones he can! Every talented mutant is just a thing to him, things to be used as a means to an end. Gods!! I hope you really give it to him good!! More updates!! Please

Author's Response: Glad your liking where this one is heading, I've no idea how long this is going to take but I hope you stay for the entire ride. Xavier has always seemed a little too rose tinted for me to beleive in fully. Sure he says the right things in the right places but who ends up paying for them? Who ends up being the bad guys? Mutants and humans who wont surrender their will to him, look at the Morlocks for that matter. Xavier *could* help them all but he doesn't, he keeps them at a distance and uses them as scapegoats. We had Leech in X3 who was a Morlock originally so when it suits him he can send help but only if it suits his purpose. At laeast Mags tells you what your in for, he's a bastard but an honest bastard. Thanks for commenting and hopefully life will allow me some time to do more to this one.

Wow. I now think I can see what you mean about Logan training Rogue, about them both having to be strong and survive. This living-in-a-cave business is not some idyll. Even when no one's there, it's dangerous. Nothing light or cheery about this. *lol* I wonder if they can ever joke.

Some of your scenes are incredibly powerful. The scene where she breaks her leg and discovers her claws, and Logan's uncertainty about how much of him is going into her. The vivid, graphic detail of her first kill - the blood splatter, the bone, her indecision and bloodlust and the bile in her throat. And the way she's not sure if she will kill herself later, how Logan is afraid. The writing makes you remember those scenes. It makes you live them.

There are things I still don't understand. *Why* is Xavier so evil? Or is he? I mean - what would happen if they didn't kill those dangerous mutant children? If Logan thinks it's wrong, why did he ever participate? In what way are the others at the mansion culpable?

And Rogue and Logan don't seem to *like* the animal - so why embrace it? Just because it's part of them? I guess - it seems like there's an emphasis on their choice. Is stronger and wilder always better? Why? Does it make them happy? Do they believe that they're making the world a better place that way? For revenge?

It makes for gripping reading, not having all the answers. Lots of moral ambiguity. Ooh! I'm sure more is coming. Am looking forward to knowing more.

Author's Response: Gamma, your questions helped me to resolve some of the plot (so thanks honey!) but I'm going to answer the animal question. Embracing their darker urges makes them responsible for them, the way Marie tries to understand them through her eyes. The way she *feels* her way through the anger, the pain, the rage that Logan has to deal with all the damn time. Even talking to Scott pushed his buttons because he's an alpha male as much as he is. Logan *knows* the price of his darker side and what he loses because of it. If Marie loses the same things he'll never be able to forgive himself. Yet in that respect she won't because she's *not* Logan, she already had darkness in her, the coiled snake in her belly that was willing to fight no matter what. Adding Wolverine to her only made her darkness stronger, more accessable. Men have mercy, women don't, we kill enemies when we find them, we dont cripple and dominate. Logan's in for a surprise about her depth and it maybe something for him to fear but I'm not sure just yet. But I'm glad your following the story, more soon I hope!

Ooooo, this is getting good. Can't wait for this dark Xavier to get what's really comin' to him!!
I really like how you're countering Logan's love for Marie with what Wolverine is doing to her psyche. She's lucky in that, at least she has him to guide her, he was all alone when he first discovered what he was. His knowledge of what she's going thru and love for her should be the defining reasons that they make it!

Not big on writing rewiews, but this one I really have to give a try.

This brings back memories to me from so many books and movies I have seen and read, that I don't even try to list them all to here. Yet this is something completely new, and I simply love this fic. I'm really expecting next installments, and I'm hoping you won't take too long with updates. It's interesting to see how this will turn up, since we have gotten already one major twist, from Xavier's world of luxury and cloak and daggers to Logan's rugged wilderness. And still there's this comfortable peacefulness that makes this easy to read. More! Please! :)

Author's Response: Thank you so much for telling me what you think, I've read your work and you always keep me coming back for more. I'm glad your enjoying it and hopefully we'll be getting to grips with Xavier and his world soon, just when the two of them are ready to come *home*. But with these two you never quite know when that will be... Jo.

This was a tender Logan...just like the vulnerable one in X1. He's so lost and could be hurt so easily. *pets*

A cave... not a cabin... well very... very... can't come up with a word... very down to earth maybe.

But I think it's a good idea Xavier won't be looking in caves.

Really like the cave idea!

Author's Response: It occured to me after watching a programme we have over here called 'Ray Mears Extreme Survival'. He was in the same area a lot of us write about, and as I watched the programme I realised that there really isn't that much straight or level ground to build on. He (Ray Mears that is) found a lee under a pine ridge, which was for the most part shale (a rock that splits and falls easily causing landslides). So I thought about it, this place he gets away to might not be a cabin, that'd take time, it'd need building rights, it'd need equipment, it could be traced by anyone. But if he's living off the land, using the local terrain to keep him warm, a decent sized cave even twenty feet into a hill will keep temperatures up by ten degrees. All he'd need to do is build a fire near the entrance, the earth in caves is usually sterile so food storage wouldn't be a problem. Also doing a bit of research into the lives of Ex-Vietnam veterans helped too. When they came home some went 'native' and stayed out in the wilds, not trusting themselves or others around them. Logan is a veteran of many conflicts, at least here he can be himself without having to worry about things. There's no door to kick in and the only things he has to worry about is the weather and fresh water supplies. I just hope Marie can manage with it, I've known plenty of women who refuse point blank to even consider peeing behind a bush when they're out in the countryside and dying to pee. Me I don't care and it feeds the plant you pee on when it degrades. Glad you like it, thanks for reading and commenting! Jo.
