Melting hands, melting to the machine

She couldn't let go if she wanted to....

Heat searing her insides

Blinding light, blinding pain

She feels like she's being turned inside out, quite literally

Yet, he's there and somehow she believes he won't let her die

That he'd follow her even there and bring her back

And she's right because she does die

And she feels that too, and it's not a relief like she'd thought

It's a different kind of pain, even worse, and a terrible thought occurs to her in that moment...

What if??? What if in saving her, she loses him

Like, one life for another?

And suddenly she knows that trade off wouldn't be in any way fair or right. She doesn't deserve such devotion from someone so awe inspiring. She's a nothing and he's what poets dream about putting on paper

But then she's coming back and she's here and he's not, his body lies there in front of her but not him and she's panicking because his heart isn't beating and that won't do.
If he's not in this world then she doesn't want to be either.

Inside there's this maelstorm of emotions and she's sure she's being overtaken by the sorrow and grief and nothing will ever be the same again. Then she hears it, ever so slightly a barely there flutter coming from his way. And it grows stronger and stronger, beating on, and pushing life back into his veins.

And she was right, nothing will ever be the same again...
Because inside her, they are one now, and the joy is stronger than everything else that has come to her here.
