He wondered if he would be so graceless as to fuck her with his jeans on, then dismissed the thought. Of course he would.
So, so good. Just like this fic. Why am I just discovering you now? Epic fail on my part. Lots more reviews to come!
“Sugar, are there any fight bars in the world that don’t look like this?” Marie asked as Logan dismounted to stand beside her. He laughed, the tension between them having dissipated with the exhiliration of the ride.
“I only take you to the nice ones, darlin’,” he winked, throwing his arm over her shoulders and pulling her close.
Your Logan is just the right amount of funny, and I adore it.
“Marie? Stop looking so fucking gorgeous. Right now, every man here wants to get into your pants.”
She spluttered, and he could tell she didn’t know whether to take it as a compliment or a warning. He was only half-joking, concerned that some idiot would let lust win out over brains and try to take advantage of his absence later on. But he also wanted to let her know just how beautiful she was. The only bright spot in this dingy bar – hell, the only bright spot in his dingy LIFE.
I'm gonna keep quoting your writing back at you to remind you how brilliant you are.
As a caveat, I'm not the biggest fan of cut and clear differences between the Logan/Wolverine, Marie/Rogue personas, it's never really rang true for me. But the payoff at the end was really nice. And, boy, did this line ever resonate:
“Well, fuck you! Just fuck right off! God forbid you should ever love anyone who had the guts to love you back! Anyone who might be your equal!” Preach it, Rogue. Preach.
I just read this whole story at once -- what a trip! From the Thelma and Louise crime spree with Mystique to the disappointment she has to face from Logan (who, let's face it, needs to get down off his high horse...dare I say Scott's moral-streak has rubbed off on the old boy? heh)
Most of all, I love the intimate perspective we get from Rogue. Her sarcasm is hilarious and her uncertainty is really endearing.
Add me to the list of people who can't wait for more!
Author's Response: Thank you *g*. Really glad you\'re enjoying it. And yep, Logan\'s definitely got to get down off of something. He\'s a stubborn one in this fic alright - you have no idea! Sometimes I want to hit him with something, or have a piano drop on his head, just to get my revenge!
Gah! Heavy stuff. I love the way you describe Logan's slow "defeat," and that last line is genius.
Author's Response: Definitely a lot heavier than I\'m used to writing! And the last line? Yeah, I\'ve had far too much fun playing with cliff hangers recently *evil grin*
Stitched shut? Gah! Poor, poor Scott. But, hey, you're alive! *waves*
Manic power-stealing Rogue is badass. I was a little squicked by the axe, but, hell, it's okay when Logan does it.
Author's Response: I hated that they supposedly killed off Scott in X3... this was my revenge mwhahahahahaaaa!
I like Rogue's tone here a lot, mostly because she's not particularly likable. I'm very okay with that. I'm interested to hear how she has Carol's powers and the cure, and what happens when Logan comes home (I assume) to find the girl who used to run into his arms an alcoholic and a bitch.
:) Hope there's more!
Logan was up and drinking coffee at my kitchen table when I crawled out of bed. Neither of us spoke. It was awkward and clumsy and I wanted to get everything out in the open, so he could make some kinda off hand remark and everything would be ok again and we could pretend we were just friends and hadn’t crossed into forbidden territory last night. I absently wondered if he smelt the shame rolling off of me. I wondered what our mixed scent smelled like, and felt a twinge of pain in my heart at the thought.
This is especially heartbreaking, and I love it.
Please do continue! :)
Author's Response: I wanted to make it so angsty that people hated and love me att he same time. I find that part very poignant, I\'m glad I got my point across. I\'m glad you liked it. Thanks!
I really like the setting for this one. I hope the ring's missing because Marie threw it away, haha. ;) I'll be reading!
This story, beyond being totally hot rough and ready smut-fluff, is so well-crafted! I love the focus on each of the senses, and the way the "wanting time" weaves throughout.
I love, love how you've got this set up. All the sweet possibility of the before and the horrifying uncertainty of the after...ugh. So sad. So great.
And addictive. I don't want to stop reading here! But it's late. Tomorrow, I'll be back for sure.
Author's Response: Oh, rock! So glad that you are liking this so far (and getting sleep is always a good thing, no worries there). I can\'t tell you how good it is to hear that people are enjoying the before/after set up. I really had been worried about that. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for reading and commenting! Makes my day :-D
Sick chapter break. Love it. I also love the reversal in their roles between the flashback and the present time.
Author's Response: Thanks! I\'ve tried to keep some balance over the POV switches, so glad to hear that\'s working!
"It's better now, Charles. Better now that they're back. The voices, personalities. Whatever you wanna call 'em. The noise is better than the silence."
This is a really interesting sentiment. Like, as much as Rogue rallies against the voices in her head (like Wolverine rallies against the animal in him), they're all wrapped up in who she is, and when they're gone she isn't the same, either. Really nice characterization you've got going on.
Author's Response: Not to sound like a broken record, but THANK YOU! The idea that Rogue might be USE to the voices in her head is something that really intrigues me, and I wanted to show that for her, having her head be empty of them at this point in time is the thing that can break her, because they are just too integrated into her psyche now that removing them would be akin to having a lobotomy. Really glad that you are enjoying this! Your comments have made my day :-D
I want so much more of this! Growl.
Author's Response: I\'m glad you are enjoying it! I\'m hoping to update tomorrow ...
Yikes, those two did a number on each other. I don't know how you're intending this, but this Logan seems like what he could've ended up like if he hadn't gotten amnesia. Like the full weight of his history of violence, all that combat readiness right on his shoulders.
Anyway. Mm-mm. Bring on the fight smut!
Author's Response: Yep, they did a number on each other. But they were also damaged people BEFORE they were together, and sometimes, people do what they must to survive. I wasn\'t thinking of this as a pre-amnesia Logan, simply a Logan who had managed to straighten himself up (somewhat!) without the Xmen coming into his life. It lacked a heart, however, without Marie, and that makes him a darker, more ruthless individual.
ROWR. What a scene, hon. You are draaaaaagging the tension out and I'm eating it up. Plus, the fact that Logan can still tell the difference between Marie/Rogue AND that he stepped to acknowledge that walking away had been a bad idea is really making me look forward to that happy ending. But until then any angry sex you wanna throw our way is just fine with me. Hee.
Author's Response: Glad you are enjoying it. Might draaaaaag it out a bit longer, but I\'m pretty sure its not too far away. Angry or not, that is the question ...
Wolverine and Rogue. Rogue and the Wolverine. It sounded like music, and felt like a car crash. They were at terminal velocity, hurtling through the night, towards something inevitable.
That sentence could be like 'ship manifesto in and of itself. Fantastic writing.
And you are hereby forgiven for any and all indulgences into smut. Yowsa.
Author's Response: tbh I thought that line was a bit trite, too many cliches, but I kept it anyway. Too prideful, I am. But you are right that it summarises the relationship quite nicely (well, the relationships I tend to write, anyway!) And thanks for absolution ;)
Gah! There is *so* much going on here and it's all amazing. Your plot is insane in the best way possible. I love, love, love that you jump into the minds of other characters, while, of course, staying truest to Wolverine/Rogue. You've got some killer one-liners in here, as always. Can't wait for more!
